The consortium is dedicated to the challenge of identifying the limits of predictability and producing the best possible predictions. In particular, W2W investigates some of the main causes of uncertainty in weather forecasting.
W2W explores these areas in a concerted approach with contributions from the disciplines of atmospheric dynamics, cloud physics, statistics, inverse methods and visualization. W2W uses and develops a variety of tools (e.g. numerical models with detailed treatment of cloud and aerosol processes, ensemble forecasts with complex static post-treatment and new interactive visualization methods for the description and identification of uncertainties).
